Herb Plants

1    |    Pre-appointment

After completing a Request and Appointment form, you will be contacted as soon as possible (within 48 hrs at most) to schedule a pre-appointment. The pre-appointment is by phone or online (your preference) where we will discuss your needs, and you can ask any questions you have. From there, we will then book the at-home euthanasia appointment at a time that is convenient for you.

While there is no fee for the pre-appointment, payment is required to book your at-home appointment. We accept many different payment options, including e-transfer, VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discovery, JCB, and Union Pay. Fees vary depending on location, but most appointments are between 450 and 500 (plus HST). More information on pricing and costs of cremation services is available here.

2    |    At-home euthanasia appointment

These appointments generally take one hour, but will vary depending on the situation, and are never rushed. We value taking our time and always ensure the process is calm and peaceful, and that everyone is prepared as we proceed.

We encourage you to consider where in your home you wish to have the euthanasia performed. Ideally it should be an area their animal is most comfortable in - this can be anywhere - in a bed, outside, comfy on the couch, on your lap, or wherever they feel most at home.

3    |    After care - for your animal

We work with Gateway Pet Memorial to provide aftercare for animals and their families. Gateway offers cremation services as well as numerous beautiful aftercare options, including pawprints and urns. Your animal's body will be placed on blankets and travel with Charlotte following the appointment, to be brought directly to Gateway in Guelph, Ontario. This helps reduce any turnaround time and ensures your animal is received by the aftercare provider the same day as your appointment.

Charlotte can provide additional keepsakes at the time of the appointment, including ink paw or noseprints, simple clay pawprints, and saving fur in a glass vessel. These are provided at no additional charge and are left with you the same day. We also encourage you to consider what aftercare is right for your and your pet - there is no one size fits all, and there are a variety of other options (including those at low or no cost) which you can find on our Resources page. Cremation costs are available here.

4    |    After care - for you

Grief surrounding pet loss is very real. Each bond is unique, and each loss equally so. Other factors surrounding you and your journey in life can impact how you feel after a loss. Give yourself grace to sit with your emotions - you deserve compassion and time to walk your own path.

In our busy lives, we often get messaging around getting 'through' grief and doing 'work'. Much of these ideas around grief are centred around capitalistic ideals, with 'return to work and productivity' as an end, not healing of the individual. Worse still, grief around pet loss is often not well understood by those who do not have the special bonds we share with our animal companions.

We encourage you to take your time, and be easy with yourself following the loss of a beloved companion. There is no doubt that these losses can be devastating, and without their physical presence, we learn to adapt to a new world.

What never leaves, is their love. They walk with us on our life's path, help us face challenges, and truly love us unconditionally. You will always, always, have their love with you as you venture forward.

There are many excellent grief resources out there, including websites, videos, support groups, and support lines. We encourage you to explore these on our Resources page, and be kind to yourself.
